Willy Kiprugut
Willy Kiprugut lost his leg in a car accident on December 6, 2008. He went to the hospital with severe injuries, and waited to be treated. For THREE DAYS Willy was unable to receive treatment for any of his injuries, including a severely injured leg, which quickly became infected. When he was finally treated on the fourth day, it was determined that his leg was too infected to be saved, and it was subsequently amputated. For almost 9 months, Willy lived without any sort of prosthetic limb. He was unable to work, and remained dependent on his family.
A friend told Willy about AIC-Cure in Kijabe and the work they were doing with the LIMBS Knee. He went to one of AIC-Cure’s "mobile clinics" in Eldoret, Kenya. There, he was spotted by a clinician from Kijabe, who offered to fit him with the LIMBS Knee. He was fitted on September 17, 2009. Since then he has been getting used to the LIMBS Knee, saying that it gives him increased flexibility and sturdiness. He hopes to return to work soon, and begin resuming a more normal lifestyle, that he has not had since losing his limb.
