FAQs
1. What is makes the LIMBS Relief Knee different than other prosthetic knees currently available?
The largest difference is in functionality. Field tests have shown our knee to be more functional than other designs used in the developing world, such as the single-axis and hinge designs. The patented LIMBS Relief Knee is a four-bar, polycentric knee that is lightweight and inherently stable, combining sophisticated design and low-cost, durable materials available throughout the developing world. Our new LIMBS (Injection-Molded) Knee expands on these differences and set our prosthetics even further ahead in cost, functionality and durability.
2. Where is the LIMBS Knee manufactured?
Currently, the new LIMBS Knee is manufactured in Mexico. The parts are manufactured via injection-molding, which allows for better quality control as well as a dramatic increase in the number of units we can produce per year (from hundreds to thousands.)
3. Is the LIMBS Relief Knee available in the United States and other developed countries?
At this time, the LIMBS Relief Knee is not available for use in the U.S. and other developed countries. We have partnered with one of the world’s leading manufacturers of prosthetics for the development of a commercial version of our knee. We are currently working to bring the product to market and hope to have it available commercially in the coming months.
4. How can I get involved with LIMBS and its mission?
There are volunteer opportunities available in the El Paso, Texas region (home of LIMBS headquarters), as well as opportunities for prosthetists and professionals in specialized areas, and physical therapists at our clinics around the world.
Additionally, LIMBS has a research agreement with The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) for engineering students, as well as research teams working at various universities in the U.S. and abroad.
For more information on these and any other volunteer opportunities, please send an email: [email protected].
5. I am interested in donating, but would like the money to be applied to a specific LIMBS initiative. Do you allow "dedicated" donations?
Yes. Dedicated donations can be made through this website or call the home office: 915-308-4680
