Audelio
Originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, Audelio came to the United States with his wife and children when he was 35 years old. Soon after arriving, he learned he had diabetes and decided that he needed to return to Mexico to care for his mother, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Not wanting to return, Audelio’s wife and children abandoned him and he traveled to Mexico by himself. After his mother passed away, Audelio, an only child, was alone in Mexico.
Several years later, his toe became infected. The infection spread quickly and after several days of not seeing him leave his house, construction workers found him unconscious in his apartment. Because of the damage, Audelio’s leg had to be amputated above the knee, leaving him unable to work or provide for himself. Thankfully, a friend referred him to LIMBS International and in November 2013, he was fitted with the LIMBS leg system at Custom Orthotics & Prosthetics in El Paso, Texas. As he adjusts to his new limb, Audelio will be able to walk without assistance and return to a normal lifestyle. |
