Gift of mobility

Transform a life this holiday season

Transform a Life!

A transformed life

Adrián was born in Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, Mexico, and when he was eleven months old, doctors found cancer in his legs. At such an early age, Adrián had to have both of his legs amputated at the knee. Adrián´s parents did an excellent job supporting him so that he could have a normal childhood.  Even though Adrián had no legs, he was able to play with other kids, attend school, and people in his town knew him well. Over time it became normal for him to walk on his knees, but it made Adrián look like a dwarf. It was that perception I had when I first saw Adrián walking into the LIMBS clinic.

Adrián is one of the few patients who was able to walk right away after being fitted with prosthetic legs. I have vivid memories of Adrián walking on the sidewalk with his new legs, and I asked, “How are you doing Adrián?” He looked directly into my eyes and told me “Oscar, LIMBS has given me back my dignity. During all of my life I've been looking up to interact with people,  but today for the first time in my life I can talk to someone at eye level…”

Stories like Adrián´s fuel our efforts in providing dignity, mobility, hope, and a new life for those who never dreamed of walking again. Adrián's story is only made possible through your generous donations.

Today, two years after his fitting, Adrián can do activities he never thought possible such as riding horses and motorcycles!
A bilateral amputee being able to ride a motorcycle is beyond our imagination!

Not only does LIMBS provide prosthetic legs, but our programs include rehabilitation services that address physical, and emotional needs to ensure amputees can fully utilize their LIMBS prosthetic legs. There are many more stories of amputees recovering their dignity, gaining new hope for their future, and new opportunities in life.

In this season of giving, please consider making a gift to LIMBS so we can help more amputees like Adrián regain hope and be able to fully participate in their families and communities.
