Hea Young
Hea Young lives in Cambodia. She is a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her life working on her family’s rice farm, then coming home and caring for her five children and playing with her grandchild. In 1989, her world was turned upside down, when she went to work on a far field. She stepped on a landmine and was knocked out. Fortunately, her family heard the blast and came running and rushed her to the nearest hospital. She awoke to find her leg shattered by the blast. There was nothing the doctors could do to fix her leg and an amputation soon followed.
After her recovery time in the hospital, her family brought her home. She tried her hardest to help around the house and farm, but some tasks were just too difficult without her leg. She started to fall into a depression. Then her family member told her about a clinic in town that provided limbs to amputees. She went to the Limbs clinic where she was fitted and put through physical rehab. Once the rehab was complete, Hea was nearly in tears from happiness. She feels happy to be able to work again and care for her family.
