Lila
At 10-years-old, Lila Begum did not understand all the chaos around her in the streets of Bangladesh. All she knew was that she was caught in crossfire, and she needed get to safe ground. While trying to move out of the way, Lila was shot in the leg and went down immediately. When she awoke, she was in the hospital.
She sat in the hospital, with her injured leg only becoming worse as time wore on. Eventually, the leg “rotted” and became infected. In order to save her limb, Lila’s right leg was amputated in 1997. Now 23, Lila has not allowed her injury to define her. Lila was fitted with the LIMBS Knee in 2007, and enjoys the increased mobility and more normal gait patterns that she accomplishes using the limb. She is married and has two children, who she tends to at home. |
