Pakhi

Picture
Pakhi is a double amputee who lost both of her legs when the Rana Plaza building collapsed in Bangladesh in April, 2013.

Married with two kids, Pakhi went to work like normal on the day of the collapse and although the workers were concerned for their safety, their boss forced them to stay. At 9am, the building collapsed, leaving only the ground floor intact. Pakhi tried to escape, but was pinned down by a beam and trapped in the rubble for almost two days.

In order to move her out from under the beam, rescuers had to amputate both of her legs on site. Unfortunately, the sedative did not work and Pakhi was awake for the entire amputation.

Thanks to the LIMBS Knee, Pakhi is now able to walk and care for her family.
