Sonia and Aroti
Sonia and Aroti are lifelong best friends who worked together on the sixth floor of Rana Plaza, an eight-story commercial building in Bangladesh that collapsed in April, 2013.
The girls, 18 and 19-years-old, were trapped in the rubble together for three days; talking to each other, crying, and hoping for help to come. Finally, Sonia's husband found her, tied a rope to her leg, and pulled her out. Shortly after, Aroti was saved as well. Both girls lost a leg as a result of the collapse, but thanks to the LIMBS knee and leg system, both Sonia and Aroti, once wheel-chair bound, are able to walk once again. |
