Vann Dy
Vann Dy lived a normal, quiet life in Cambodia. He made his living working in a noodle making factory. In 2001, life was about to change for Vann. One day as he was working his pant got caught on a machine. The pant leg was trapped in the gears pulling Vann in with it. Vann couldn’t get away fast enough and his leg became mangled. Vann was soon pulled from the machine and taken to the hospital. The doctors could not reset Vann’s leg but they continued to keep an eye on it. Over time, the leg became infected and the tissue in the leg was rotting and dying. The doctors knew then that they would need to amputate his leg if Vann were to walk and work again.
After the amputation, Vann did not want to return to the noodle factory for fear something similar may happen again. He went to a local clinic and was fitted for a leg. Soon after he got a job with education support for the children in the area. It was important for Vann to have a leg that worked well, since he had to travel long distances to visit the children in the community. Vann went through 10 devices and they all felt very heavy for him. Vann soon traveled to a nearby Limbs clinic where he was refitted for a leg. Now with his new leg, Vann is able to travel the distances to do his job.
